PP, a master of slogans like “Canada First” says he’s “the tough guy” who is best suited to dealing with Trump.
When Mark Carney recently met with Danielle Smith, she left him with ten demands that if not met within the first six months of whomever became federal leader would result in a “constitutional crisis”. These included:
– Scrapping the so-called Clean Electricity Regulations
– Ending the prohibition on single use plastics
– Abandoning the net-zero car mandate
When asked what he thought about Danielle Smith’s demands, PP said he thought they were reasonable. This leads to a number of questions for PP: does “Canada First” really mean Danielle Smith first; does it mean that because these regulations were brought in by liberals, they are therefore wrong by definition or does it mean that PP is only tough on people at the left of the political spectrum or those (as Trump says) who “don’t have the cards”.
In any case, dealing with Trump also requires someone who can demand respect for Canada’s sovereignty, which includes no further mention of Canada as a 51st state. Interestingly, since the recent discussion with Mark Carney, Trump has already stopped referring to Canada as the 51st state.
