The three photos below were taken along the Osoyoos waterfront in the morning. Osoyoos is in the middle of Osoyoos lake where the lake narrows. You aren’t seeing the other side of the lake in the photos. The lake is much larger. What you are seeing is a ‘spit’ – originally called Haynes Point Provincial Park – now called Swiws Provincial Park (accents above each w). I think it is a good idea to go back to the aboriginal names. The problem is that most people still call it Haynes Point because they don’t know how to pronounce swiws (accents about each w). The relationship between the syntax and pronunciation remains a mystery to most (including myself).
