Originally built in 1660 by the Moriconi family – it passed to the Controni family (rival silk merchants). In 1846, Austrian brewmaster leased the gardens and cellars to brew german beer. He eventually bought the entire estate.
One of the stories associated with the property had to do with a young King Frederick IV of Denmark who had a romance with a local noblewoman Maria Maddalena Trenta while staying at the palazzo in 1692. However, he returned to Copenhagen and eventually married a German princess while she joined a convent. 17 years later they met for one last time.
