Castle Hill and the 15 minute hair cut

Today we headed off first to the Saleya market and then the plan was either to take the tiny tram up the colline du château or to take the elevator. Last year we walked up and it inspired us to find some less exhausting way.

The Saleya market is in the old town and covers about 4 long blocks + some side streets. Throngs of people inhibit your progress. At the end of the market you are approaching la colline du chateau. Although it is called la colline due chateau, there is no chateau. It was at one time a military “chateau” which was destroyed in 1706 and is now just a park on a hill. You can walk up, take the tiny tram or take the elevator. We didn’t come across the tram so took the elevator and then later walked down.

On the way back we came across a wedding party – the bride was having her photo taken sitting on a barrel (maybe from the old saying “he had her over a barrel??”).

Julie had also arranged to have a shampoo and to have her bangs trimmed with the appointment made via our airbnb host at her hair dresser Gerald. Later in the afternoon we headed over. I left Julie with Gerald who said she would be finished in 20 minutes. I thought that was unlikely but showed up 20 minutes later and apparently Gerard had shampooed her hair “a la car wash” (as Julie described it) and not only trimmed but cut her hair in 15 minutes. Normally it takes an hour. Surprisingly, he did a pretty good job (photo included).
